Snowed In

We moved to North Carolina to escape the ravages of winter. We didn't completely escape it. As much as we dislike ice and snow, sometimes it is rather beautiful.

Snowed In

On the 19th and 20th of February, we received seven inches of snow here in the northern Piedmont of North Carolina.

We prepped by loading up on firewood and hoarding water for ourselves and then ensuring all animals were well-fed and watered and had access to adequate shelter. We dreaded the coming days of slogging through damp and cold. That was until the skies filled with beautiful, fluffy white flakes of snow. And with that, we knew we were in for something special.

In North Carolina, we receive more ice and sleet than snow, generally, but these delicately floating water-fairies promised a beautiful respite from those typical wintry horrors. And in a few short hours, North Carolina looked more like New England with its white, puffy blanket of alabaster.

For the moment, we were just fine with it. And, like all polite visitors, the snows of February 2025 knew precisely the right time to say their goodbyes before they overstayed their welcome. By the 21st, the streets were clean, and the bulk of the snow had melted away. When you read this, most of our pastures will be completely free of any white adornment.

Thank you, dear precipitatious visitor, for the pleasant interruption of our meteorological routine. Perhaps we'll welcome you again in a year or two or ten.
